POMONAWILDCATS
Tourney vs Appanoose and Williamsburg
We began the season with the district tournament and took on district rivals Williamsburg. We were suffering through a six game losing streak to 'Burg so being down at the half by 3 was a slight concern. Great defense led by Justin Wheeler allowed us to make a charge in the 2nd half and we went on to a 37 - 25 win.
The second game had us taking on Appanoose
- a team that had beaten us in the previous three match - ups. They won
the league championship the previous year and had taken us on a 20-0 run
that year to begin a game. Abe Frieden's 18 points added with
Justin Wheeler's 11 led the team to a 38 - 22 win.
Thursday Nov. 9th 2000
At MdCV
MdCV was a team that we had
had some success against in the past three years, winning all three games.
They had the score tied 7 -7 after the first quarter, but some long-range
shooting from Tanner Nitcher allowed us to build a 30 - 10 halftime lead.
Chad Coffman scored 12 and Nitcher added 9 in a 50 - 30 win.
Thursday Nov. 16th, 2000
At Williamsburg
They played us hard the whole way, but some solid defense
on a man to man press was able to allow us a mini-run in the 4th quarter
and we won 28 - 20. Nitcher led the team with 11pts, but it was a
solid team effort on offense and defense in this win.
Tuesday, Nov. 21st, 2000
Home
vs Scranton
In our toughest game yet,
Scranton battled us the wholeway on our home court and we were unable to
deliver the knock-out blow. The game finished with a 34 - 27 tally,
due to some great full court pressure put on by our back-court guards.
Frieden led the team in scoring with 18 points.
Monday, Nov. 27th, 2000
Home vs Chase County
Chase County brought in
some great height, but a solid effort on our pressed kept them guessing
and we were able to deliver a 28-16 home court victory. Scoring was spread
around with Justin Wheeler leading the charge with 7 points. Zeke
Thompson added 6 more, and Nitcher, Coffman, and Frieden each added 5.
Thursday, Nov. 30th, 2000
Home vs Burlingame
In our most dominating game
of the season to this point, we exploded out of the gate to scored 17 points
in the first quarter andnever looked back on our way to a 47 - 26 victory.
Frieden led the team with 14 points, and Matt Rand helped out with 10 more.
Thursday, Dec. 7th, 2000
At Lyndon
We were told that it had
been about 30 years since a Pomona team had beaten a Lyndon hoops squad,
but our boys were focused in on getting the job done. We led 20 -
13 at the half, and rather than worrying about Lyndon going on a run, we
put up a 12 - 2 run of our own and came out with a huge 36 - 25 victory.
Abe Frieden had a massive game on the boards, pulling down 12 defensive
boards and scoring 12 points. Matt Rand chipped in another 9 points
and the team as a whole played hard defense.
